Come join Ontario Nature, the York-Simcoe Naturalists, and YMCA Newcomer Youth at Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve to learn how you can become a citizen scientist! At this event you will learn how to set up cover board monitoring plots for snakes and salamanders, how to ID reptile and amphibian species, where to look for them, and how to submit your observations of these species to the Ontario Reptile and Amphibian Atlas project. After laying down the cover boards, enjoy a picnic lunch (please bring your own). Then Ontario Nature’s conservation staff will lead a guided nature hike along the reserve’s trails and a visit to tend the pollinator garden.
Directions: The reserve is located at 18462 Bathurst Street in Newmarket, Ontario. The entrance to the reserve is marked by a green and white nature reserve sign and an Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust sign. Continue down the driveway past the white house. A parking lot is located at the end of the driveway.
Registration: RSVP by July 24th, 2015 to megana@ontarionature.org.
More Information: Please wear long pants and closed toed shoes. Bring a picnic lunch, hat, sunscreen, and re-fillable water bottle. Snacks and water will be provided.
